Hi, <<First Name>>! Remember when I was working crazy hours about 3 years ago to grow my "online empire" (some of you created that nickname, lol)? Well, now I am putting in about 30+ hours a week for our online work and 35+ hours a week into pet sitting and meetings to organize pet sitting. I'm exhausted but am enjoying myself. The animals are awesome and their owners are generally nice people. I wish I had a teleportation device though. It looks like June will be close to a $2000 month just from pet sitting, so I am considering this a side hustle win!

E.M. asked, "Was pet sitting something you were always interested in? What’s the best part? I’d love to try my hand at this in the future and I love reading your posts about it. I have two cats, but no dogs, and I figure it’s a good way to interact with them as opposed to adding another animal to the apartment!"
I've always liked animals and we've taken care of the pets for our friends and family for more than 10 years as needed. When I noticed I had free time and we needed to bring in some extra income, it was just a natural fit. I had thought about opening a kennel before, but in-their-home pet sitting is less stressful for the pets and their humans. ;-)
Catseye asked, "I’m really interested in your experiences in pet sitting since I also pet sit for a neighbor. I’ve been thinking about pet sitting for strangers but frankly, I’m concerned about my physical safety. Any advice about vetting potential clients? Ever gotten bad vibes from someone, so you decided not to accept the job?"
No specific worries so far, but I do carry mace and a Taser in my purse (the mace was actually a gift from one of my favorite pet sitting clients and the Taser was a gift from a blogging buddy up north). If I feel weird about someone on the phone (only happened once so far), I let them know that I am booked for whatever day they need and tell them that my pet sitting insurance site lists other insured pet sitters in their area.
My husband also knows what jobs I have and how to look up the addresses in my Excel sheet in Dropbox. And I always have my phone charged and ready to go.
Overall, it's just like any other job where you deal with clients all day. You read people the best you can and make sure someone knows where you are in case you're wrong.
.
Thanks for being the best readers ever!
Crystal
