BFS Newsletter #173 - When Do You Expand?
Hi <<First Name>>!  So, you started a side hustle.  It's growing.  How far do you take it?  Or is it time to expand?  The main trick is knowing your own line.  How much extra work can you take on before it's just too much?

When you are getting close to the end of your limit, it's time to start training help unless you want to give up on the business completely.  I take my husband with me on a lot of pet sitting meetings so he can also meet the animals and owners in advance in case he has to cover some of the visits.  This lets us divide the daily schedule in a way that lets us both balance our social lives, blogging, and his reffing.

Charlotte asked, "What was the tipping point for Mr. BFS joining you to work at home? Did it take convincing him or was he ready to change? My husband doesn’t really like his job, and I feel that we have a lot of potential to do an online business, but he’s under the illusion that a J-O-B is secure?"

I was able to juggle my side hustle of blogging along with my full time day job for about 1.5 years before I had to call it quits with the day job in July 2011.  Then it took another 7 months to bring my husband on because my online work was taking up the day job's time and then some.  He didn't enjoy being an elementary school librarian as much as he wanted to be self-employed, so it didn't take much convincing.  I thought about asking him to balance both, but we didn't financially need to.

Then I started pet sitting in February 2014 and started bringing on my husband for help earlier this year.  So my limit seems to be a little more than a year of 80+ hours a week before I raise the white flag and ask for help.

Thanks for being the best readers ever!
